Make the chart yours: type, scale, theme and layout

Your Chart

The setting most beginners never touch is the one that changes the most: the price scale. On BTCUSD, which has run from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands, a linear scale crushes years of history into a flat line at the bottom and makes recent candles look like a wall. Switch to log and a 20% move looks the same size whether price is 600 or 60,000. That is what you actually care about.

Type and scale

  • Chart type: the candle icon in the top toolbar swaps between candles, a line (close only, good for spotting the clean trend), and OHLC bars. Most people live on candles — if they still look like noise, read reading candlestick charts.
  • Log vs linear: bottom-right of the chart, click the small L (or right-click the price axis). Use log on anything that moved hundreds of percent; linear is fine for EURUSD or a stock trading in a tight band.

Theme, colours and grid

Right-click the chart → Settings. Under Appearance pick a dark or light background. Under Symbol, set your up and down candle colours — muted green/red is easier on the eyes across an eight-hour session than the default neon. Uncheck Grid lines if the horizontal lines distract from structure; the crosshair already tells you exact levels.

Template, not layout: in that same Settings dialog, open the Template dropdown (bottom-left) and pick Save As — your colours and grid become the default every new chart inherits. Log scale is remembered per symbol on its own, so BTCUSD stays on log without a template. To keep the whole workspace — indicators, splits, timeframe — save the layout from the top-right instead.
